Carlos, this is such a beautiful painting! I love the carefully considered design elements in this painting, the vertical lines repeating themselves, and of course the profile of the pale face agains the dark panel. For me, a coiled red drape evokes a Caravaggio-esque sense of controlled passion, which is an excellent metaphor for flamenco.

I have painted several such dancers as models when I teach here in Arizona. When my eyesight gives out, I'm taking up flamenco as a new career.

Congratulations on another intelligent and stunning painting. It's always a great pleasure to see your work here.

This is so subtly beautiful. The scarf is such a beautiful accent.

I really am impressed that you resisted the easy fix of a trite image and went for a feeling of gentle anticipation instead. Lovely!

Marina and Lacey, thanks for your vote of approval and kind words. I had her try several poses and she was even game enough to dance while I (tried) to sketch. Then I tried a classic stance (similar to Sargent
