I am always glad to see you post! I think that your oil and acrylic work have a different quality from each other - is that perhaps because this work is newer, or do you find the mediums behave differently?

Thank you Chris, the big difference between oil and acrylic is drying time, acrylic is less forgiving, but acrylic paint has such vibrant color, its a dissapointment that it's so difficult to blend when painting a portrait. The acrylic portrait that I placed here in the recent past was my attempt to find a way to blend the edges and make soft transitions, so I used a stippling technique.

I prefer oils, when I work on a acrylic painting whether it be a portrait, or a landscape I find myself missing that familiar oil paint aroma, which I have grown so accustomed to over the years.

Nicely done. I really like your acrylics as well. Because of allergies to solvents and oil paint binders I can only work in acrylic paints. Love the oils but they don't love me.

Anyway, I found I could increase open time on acrylics by having my piezo electric humidifier wafting over the canvas, spraying the back of the canvas periodically with a mister and mixing my paints with Golden's Acrylic Glazing medium (up to 50%). Hope that helps you with the blending in acrylics.

Thank you Richard, I like the idea of spraying the back of the canvas with water when working with acrylic paint, excellent idea, that method never occurred to me. Goldens Acrylic glazing medium, I would be lost without it.
