I noticed something very interesting in the first image of Sanden's studio interior that was posted. Take a look at the top left corner of the photo. He seems to have attached a light bank to the window, about a third of the way down. I imagine that this is so he can paint in the evening or on dark days, while still approximating the direction of the window light. Great idea!

The Sargent Society

As nice as John's studios are you cannot top the experience of attending The Sargent Society meetings at John's 57th St studio.

On the first Friday of the month fellow members of the group would meet, share recent work with other artist from in and around the city and then get to hear and see John explain and recreate one of Sargent's well known paintings. It was a long bus ride from PA to NYC and I did not get to bed until 2.30 the next morning, but the fond memories will last forever. He is a great teacher and all around fine person.
