Hitchhiker




I haven't posted in a while, but I have had this painting sitting around for a year waiting to be revisited and would like some input. The clouds particularly, or the contrast between his head and the background seems wrong. Oil on Panel 24X30

Thanks for any input.

Awwww . . . ! (I'm a sucker for Border Colles - three of 'em own me!)

While the sky shouldn't be considered the source of light, the basic value pattern in this piece seems problematic. That is, the mass value of horse, rider and dog would be darker than the background sky. The clouds depicted would usually be lighter than the blue of the sky as well.
