I've been lurking for some time and have really enjoyed reading the posts. I painted children's portraits from about 91 to 97, and then took several years off painting due to some family health issues. Got back into painting about 3 1/2 years ago, first with plein air landscape, then added in still life, and now am rediscovering my passion for portraits and figures and have been attending a weekly open studio for about a year a and a half.
Here are a couple of recent works, one of my husband and one of a friend of my son's. Both done in 3 sittings from life. I'm sure there is a lot of room for improvement, and I'll post in the critique section soon, but any comments are always appreciated.

Cynthia,
Your work is wonderful, so loose and free. I remember an equally wonderful painter with your name who showed her work on Signal Mountain, TN. I am wondering, could that be you?

Well, I'm not sure about wonderful, but I did used to live on Signal Mtn where I did mostly children's portraits. Thanks for the kind words, Julia, and Mary, Alexandra and Debra. There are so many good painters on this forum, I'm hoping to learn a lot.

Welcome Cecelia. The first portrait hit me when it popped up on my screen - very nice color and sense of coming alive!
