Portrait of a one year old child
Hello everyone,
I'm working on a commission at the moment. The portrait is not finished yet, the first layer of oil-paint has dried and I was able to scan the painting. It's a very small painting (10 x 15 cm. = 4.16 x 6.25 inch.)
The child is one year old. The mother requested a white or nearly white background, so the painting could match with a photograph of the father of the child when he was one year old. It's a present for the father, he will receive it in September. As I said, the painting isn't finished yet. I have to paint more details in the green piece of clothing, add some lighter accents in the hairs, and adjust the eyes a little bit. Any comments are welcome, I will paint further on this painting in a few weeks. When it's finished I'll post a photograph of the finished painting.
Greetings,
Peter

Underpainting
A picture of the underpainting. The scanner is such a handy tool for these kind of things

Very beautiful! I love paintings of babies! One thing, the eyes do not seem congruent. The right eye has this wide-eyed surprised expression, and the left has a more relaxed look. It may be the same on the resource photo, so if it is, my most humble apologies!
I like the "chunkiness" of the paint and how everything blends without being blended to death.

Masterfully done! Agreed on the eyes, but will wait until it is finished. The dark shadows do not seem to be supported by the background, but it will work.

It's really gorgeous. I can't think of any criticism except maybe that the background is too bland.

Thanks for your comments. Normally I would do the background darker but I had to make it very light because it had to match with an old photograph. I will work on the eyes and show the painting when it's finished.
Greetings,
Peter

Hello, I finished the portrait of the child. Here is a scan of the portrait. I corrected the eye, worked on the hair and the green shirt.
greetings,
Peter
