The Forum's discussion of the BP POrtrait Award

This forum has been one the most interesting sites for me to consult. As someone working to improve in the areas of painting and drawing, I've been grateful for all the fascinating and helpful discussions on this forum! Please keep up the good work.

A few days ago, several members discussed the selection of the BP Portrait Award (at London's National Portrait Gallery) and the merits of photorealism, as well as one of the judge's concerns about the selection process. Well, for what it's worth, here's the article they were referring to.

Enjoy!

Thomasin, my pleasure!

The article is very informative about the triumph of photorealism at the BP Portrait Award Competition (National Gallery, London). But did you notice the journalist ended the article mixing up the centuries of Goya and Ingres?

"-18th century Ingres captures all the polished perfection of the neoclassical ideal

— 19th century Goya is unafraid to expose the ugly"

Ingres is 19th century, Goya 18th.

Oh well!
