Classical drawing

The represented content (including reproductions of Bargue-plate drawings), qualifications of the author, hardbound copy at a surprising price, and the rave reviews compelled an impulse purchase of:

Classical Drawing Atelier -- A Contemporary Guide to Traditional Studio Practice

For those Forum participants and viewers who are eagerly following the several threads on traditional drawing instruction, particularly cast drawings and copies of Bargue plates, this appears to be a real gem.

If upon receipt I have a different opinion, I'll let you know.

If you happen to go for it, click through to Amazon from here, so that the Forum can benefit from the Amazon "commission."

I've just returned from a long journey that included an exhibition of works from the Dahesh Museum (an unexpected treat to see Bouguereau's "The Water Girl" (which is in such perfect condition that I think he must have been onto something -- but alas, will we ever know?) and so I was really in the mood to find in my mailbox upon return, this book.

What a stunning and rich resource. I can't quit holding and leafing through this beautiful book. I cannot believe the price for this kind of information and insight -- and I can't imagine that the price won't rise quickly.

However, for some reason this is the kind of thing that seems to be allowed to go out of print, so you might want to go after this one now if it's a subject you want to know a lot more about.

thumbs up Red, Hot Tip.

Thank you for your high recommendation. The "One Click" of Amazon is way too much fun and so....easy. Can't wait for the arrival of such a treasure. I'm guessing it won't arrive under armed guard....but probably should.

Though I've mentioned it often, I know we are all busy and things slip through the cracks. I ask that Forum members please try to remember to order books through the SOG Bookstore so we earn a small credit towards the maintenance of the Forum.

That book is featured on this page in the bookstore: http://portraitartist.com/bookstore/...on-drawing.htm

Also, if any book or other Amazon item you seek is not listed in our bookstore, simply use the Amazon search box in the left menu of every bookstore page - and we still get credit.

I've also changed the above book link so SOG gets credit.

My bad, Cynthia. I thought this was covered so long as the purchaser had linked over to Amazon from anywhere on this site.

I'll recalibrate my personal settings.
