I did this last month in Tony Ryder's drawing intensive class at Andreeva Portrait Academy. We had five three-hour sessions with this pose.
It was a nude figure drawing but I cropped this image since I ended up focusing mostly above the waist.

A superb and deft portrayal of form-defining light. This is the best of the artistic expression -- one that does not interrupt the viewer with the "art" or the execution, but makes us immediately encounter the subject. That is the most revealing and respectful practice of this art. Those of us who engage in the practice can later pull back and make the closer examination as to how the artist actually accomplished this.
I might otherwise remark on a couple of small areas of overmodeling, but the overall effect is of a very bright light source, so the objection is overruled for the most part

Once again you are demonstrating your combination of natural talent and dedication to hard work. Seeing a first class drawing like this makes me very happy, for I see there is a future for portraiture.
If only others would work as hard to learn to draw the right way!
My congratulations to you. Also, please give Tony my regards. His wonderful talent is being put to good use in teaching.

This is so beautifully executed, Anna - a marvelous drawing demonstrating sensitive line, strong modelling and sharp observation. How wonderful that you are doing this workshop!
I've spent many hours on still life and cast drawings but I don't think I have drawn for so long from life. (Painted, yes; drawn, no.) Was it difficult to get the model to settle into the pose and stay there? I guess what I am asking is, does the contour outline shift and if so, what does the artist do about it as a technical matter?
And, can I ask you about Tony Ryder's "envelope" technique - did you start the drawing using this method?

this is beautiful! Strong and sensitive at the same time.
When you say "pencil" does it mean graphite? And what size is it?
I envy you a lot to go to such a workshop!

Anna, I've been admiring your drawing and wishing I could see the whole thing. Can you post it in the nudes section? The features are solid, sensitive, and alive. It makes me want to draw every time I look at it.
