Bratislava-Slovakia, anyone there??

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is a way of searching the memberlist by location?

Looks like I'm on the move again, to Bratislava. I haven't a clue about this city and I'm trying to find some like minded people so i can pick their brains about supplies etc. Maybe even join a couple of groups.

Not having much success as yet, but you never know

Carolyn.

Hello Carolyn,

I do not no how to answer your question, but I do have some thoughts to give you. My guess is Slovakia is still not a very rich nation. Living here in China, I have had the experience of seeing that there are no high quality art supplies here except for supplies used for traditional Chinese paintings. Having visited here before, I knew this would be the case, so I brought a lot of equipment with me from California. I would suggest that to you as well unless you know better.

It seems you've lived abroad quite a while, so I trust you've already thought about this. If not, I thought I'd remind you.

Good luck on your new adventure.
Anthony

There is no way you can do a search on location. However, if you tell me what searches you would like to do, I can do them for you.

Hi Cynthia,

Thankyou for the offer I'm trying to find artists based in Slovakia, Bratislava the capital would be even better, just to pick their brains about supplies, groups and anything else of interest.

I've done a search on wetcanvas, where you can search by member location and have had some good feedback from an artist based in the city.

I know its a longshot but I was wondering if there is anyone on your memberlist.

Thanks again,

Carolyn.

Anthony,

You're quite right, and from the feedback i've already had it seems i will need to get a bigger suitcase

Well never mind i'm going via Paris and have decided to go the day before so i can have a whole day to hit the Sennelier shop

Carolyn

Carolyn, I went to the old Soviet Union in 1991, to Kazakhstan. It was a very hard 3 week trip. The conditions there were virtually the same in Moscow, and other cities of that poor country. You must get inoculations for typhoid, etc, as one of our ladies got that. You must bring your own antibiotics and remedies, as the medical service there is nearly non-existent. Bring plenty of amodium, because even if you filter your water (which I highly recommend) you cannot avoid getting it through foods. And it is awful. Eat no dairy products, as they are not pasteurized. There is no cellophane of any kind. Nothing is wrapped.

Do be careful. It is very difficult if you get sick. There are no ambulances. We saw an accident, and waited there with the injured, but realized that there were no ambulances, so we provided one ourselves.

Art materials are very scarce. Bring all of your own stuff. Do not sell anything, as you may get in trouble for selling without a license. For sure, you do NOT want to get arrested there. However, bribery is the rule of law there.

The "twalyets" are utterly terrible. There is no concept of germs in the eateries. We sat at tables with the unwashed dishes and silver from the prior diners!

The people are wonderful. I did some drawing there, and met some wonderful artists.

Do be careful. Best wishes on your trip.
