Black and White Oil

I had mentioned before how much I like working in pencils, because of the drama of black and white. This portrait of my son was done using only black and white paint. (Sorry for having you turn your heads, it's the only way I could fit it in) This was done about eight months ago. I really had fun with it. It was actually less work than using pencils.

Thanks, Mark Gil

Nice job...maybe Cynthia could turn this around for us?

I also like the drama of working this way. (However, I usually use raw umber + white). I like the way you did your Disney line drawings. I would find that very tough to do with oil paint.

This is charming! I find oils the easiest of mediums. You accomplished so much with variety of texture and values in monochrome.

My only comment regards the shadow on the forearms which might benefit from additional modelling and softening.

In another version, it would be interesting to see how classic glazing techniques (alla Raphael?) might be layered over to introduce subtle color and life.

Thanks

Cynthia, thanks for "straightening up" the situation. Jeanine and Karin, I appreciate yall's comments. I may soon post another monochrome in oils that was done just before this one.
