Digital Cameras and Flash Systems

I'm thinking of getting a digital camera but was wondering what cameras can be connected to flash systems which you are currently using? I don't have a flash system yet but have access to one at work. I can't see that any of the under $1000 would even do it. Then, would those shoot good enough resolution anyway.

Like Tim mentioned earlier, if you doing a full size photo of full body, resolution probably won't be sufficient unless you go to 10m-11m. What's a guy to do? Any comments.

Or is there a powerful enought light that doesn't flash that would be sufficient. That is what I would really want to get. One light that I could use when drawing/painting from life and as a light when photographing for portraits. Is there anything like that around?

Kent

Kent,

My fellow Louisianaian!
I bought a Sony DSC-F717 recently. It is 5.24mp. I love it! I have printed out at 20" x 30" and I can see every pore and every lash in the face. It cost me $535 and I purchased a $60 128mb stick to go with it. I also purchased a lighting system made be Smith Victor that I love. It can with stands umbrellas, and boom. All of this together was under $900. Here are a couple of images I took recently. You can go to several places on the internet and read the reviews of this camera.

Here is a Black and white. It loses so much in "shrinking" it for internet.

Thanks Rebecca!

Just a few questions.

1. Do you connect your flash unit with an adapter to the hotshoe on top of the camera?

2. Where did you get it at that price? The lowest I've seen that one is $799.

3. Do you have a large format printer or do you get it done somewhere?

Thanks,

kent

Your Welcome!

1. The flashes that I have do not attach to the camera. They are flood lights that stay on continuously. That way what you see through the lens is what you get. They get a little warm but I really like the results.

2. I had an issue of Shutterbug magazine with an ad in the back listing the camera for $589. I took that magazine into Sears and they matched the ad and gave me an additional 10% off!!

3. I have an Epson 2200 photo printer that prints up to 13x19. I paid $550 for it. I use is for most things including my limited addition art prints. There are a couple of threads that have some information about this printer in another section of this forum.

If I need a print bigger than that I send it off. It did seem to saturate the reds a little bit but I tinkered with it and now it is better.

Glad I gould help!
Rebecca
