Liberace's Drawing Technique

At the request of Cathy Muhly, I'm posting the address of an article American Artist wrote about the artist Robert Liberace and his drawing technique:

http://www.robertliberace.com/americ...starticle.html

You may have heard of Robert. He won "Best of Show" at the Portrait Society of America's show in April, 2002. I met Robert's teacher Frank Wright in 1990 and he showed me the figure drawings of his prize pupil. They looked like Rubens figure studies; I was stunned. Frank described briefly the technique and with that knowledge I went back to Maastricht and experimented until I had something to offer clients who could not afford oil portraits.

I hope after reading the article you will get the itch as I did and experiment with drawing techniques. It can only further enhance your oil portrait work--and best of all, there are no brushes to clean afterwards.

Robert's website is well worth a visit: www.robertliberace.com

Thanks for posting these links. I'll plan on spending at least a few hours studying them!

I have seen Robert's originals and they are so much more than you can tell via computer images.

He is a wonderful painter and one, I am sure, who will continue to raise his own bar over time.
