Zhaoming Wu wooden palette box
Hello - I just saw one of Zhaoming Wu's DVDs (amazing amazing painter!), who uses what looks like a large wooden box (maybe 30 x 24) to put his oil paints in. The box has 2 hinged "doors" that close down on the palette when not in use. His palette was not clean in the fashion that a hand-held palette would be (ideally...) - there was a lot of dried paint around the edges.
I've never seen anything like it, and a search online shows nothing similar. He mentioned that it keeps his paints dry for longer periods than other palettes.
Anybody aware of this type of palette?
Thanks
Lynn Der

Not sure about a box like that, but Whitaker keeps his paints fresh by putting the palette in an old freezer. i can attest this works well, although I can see how having a lid would also add to the slow drying time. If you never do find the box or figure out how to build one, I posted how to build Whitaker's idea of a perfect palette http://nataliehunsaker.blogspot.com/...t-palette.html . it's quick and simple if you care to do it. Good luck finding the box--and let us know how you did it if you build it yourself!

Wooden palette box
I have made a box like that. Scott Burdick used a box like you described during a demo, it looked really useful and I asked him where he got it and he told me, he made it himself. So I made reference photos and constructed a copy. I think I still have the drawings and measurements somewhere. At the moment I'm moving my studio, but if you like I could look for them when I'm settled. Let me know!

I don't think it is quite the same as the folding palette described above, but for those who are not handy, here is another option: http://leeboynton.com/book/1213/pale...d-carrying-box
The palette is held in place by a twisting piece inside the thumb hole.
