Debra, this is nice...gorgeous colors, good modeling. I'm sure his family is very pleased.

If you want a full critique, however, that includes "likeness". So you might want to post your reference photo for further input. One of the young man's eyes seems to be slightly higher than the other, but that might be the way he really is, so it's impossible to tell without the reference.

Hi Debra,

This is a lovely portrait. He has soft, sweet eyes.

I think that the colors in your portrait, where the flesh meets flesh, is a little too cold. Some examples are, where the upper and lower lip meet, the nostril, and corner of the eyes. These areas seem too gray and I think it would warm the face up and really pop it out against the blue gray if you added a color and tone more like the inside of the ear, perhaps an alizarin/cad red lt./raw umber mix. I see this color in the hair already. You might want to add a bit of this color in some form to the very dark shadows within the shirt as well, particularly the portion of his collar against his neck on the left (his right).

The area underneath the ear and beside the jaw is a bit flat and may need to be re-worked. It is a tricky area!

Amanda
