Watercolour portrait

Hello - this is a watercolour portrait done of my son. I haven't used watercolour for a number of years, and then quite tightly. This one is 10" x 10".

Thanks for looking.

Thomasin,

There are many cute baby portraits (I guess because there are many cute babies) but few artists would risk the level of control to allow the watercolor to get watery and flow together and do unexpected things the way it does naturally. What has happened is the creation of a portrait of an interesting human being who happens to be a baby. The look in his eyes is quite extraordinary. I especially like the brushtrokes and color in the light areas of his forehead and bald top, (our) right cheek, and chin area.

Alex, my faithful responder, thank-you. I apologise for taking over a year the write my "thank-you". I came across it looking through the forum for hidden gems (there are quite a number of them - it's quite a treasure hunt) and realised I hadn't answered you here.

I really like this; you've given such a solidity to his head with a virturally transparent approach, lovely shapes and expression

Thank-you so much, Margaret. I had forgotten about this one - dismissed it as a failure due to so little response - but you have given me renewed confidence. I am really glad you like it!
