Very nice. I particularly like the lighting. I might recommend that you change just a couple of things, though. I'd define the tip of the nose so it doesn't disappear completely, and I'd warm up the dark cool areas on the fingers. Otherwise it's a fine, haunting piece that I'm sure will be a family treasure.

Hi, the "ala candlelit" style certainly appeals to me. My gripe falls on the red reflection on the vase. It'll work really well if it could be toned down a little. That's my opinion of your work here.

Thanks for the nice compliments and critique.

This was one of my compositional experiments from earlier this year.
I work from both life and photos and tend to sketch from multiple angles (from life, when possible) before starting a painting. Maria is my ever-trusting guinea pig and my better half - of course .
