This is my 25 year old daughter, Lauren. She stopped in to see us for a short visit and as she was about to leave she wore the top you see in the photos. She looked so much like some 1800's portraits that I had to take some pictures. We only had 15 minutes in the studio before she had to catch her plane. These three are the best of the lot of 126. They were shot with a Nikon D70s with a Nikor AF-S 28-70mm F2.8 lens in natural daylight enhanced with four flouresent 5800K 96 CRI bulbs mounted over my north facing window. All critiques welcome.

Which would you pick for a portrait? I'm in love with all of them...but then I'm her Dad!

The 3 photos are great , but if you want to give a 1800 atmosphere, the third is the best.
( just be careful with the arm : I think there's a distorsion which makes it appear a little too big )
You can be proud: she's a beautiful girl!

If I was going to do a portrait from life, I'd do the third one. If you're going to use the photograph, the first one. But all of them are lovely.

Thanks to you I am getting some of the best shots of my career. I read your thread on white balance. It was great. I use wb in all my shots now.

Thanks. She takes after her mother. You have a good eye. There is some distortion as my studio only allows me to get about 10 feet back from the subject. I will take care of that in the painting.

It will have to be a portrait from a photo. My daughter lives in California. Arranging a live sitting at the moment would almost be impossible/ However, a live sitting for another painting is in the offing for next year.

oh - paint the 3rd one!!

I think the tilt of her head is too pronounced in the first, dont care for the second, but the 3rd is just right.

Im looking forward to seeing it - going to be beautiful.

I like the third one as well. I think it's the one that shows the most of everything beautiful about your daughter. The pose is classic and so is your lighting. This is some of the best colors I've ever seen from a camera. Nice work!!

Okay, that settles it. I'm definitely going for the Nikon now!

I think the lens is as or maybe more important than the camera. When I tested this lens against the standard lens that comes with the camera, there was no contest. Better colors and less distortion were immediately noticeable.
However, be prepared for some serious sticker shock. The lens cost almost twice as much as the camera body.
