Painter with pearlish earring
Hi!
This is a self portrait I did an evening to try out the ground on which it is drawn. Done with charcoal and pearlish white pastel. The ground is a framed 90 x 90 cm foam board "dressed" with linen.
At some point in the early stages of the drawing, or maybe even before I got started, I saw a resemblance in my expression with Vermeers "Girl with pearl earring". But in the end and after looking at Vermeers painting they are not much alike.
Anyways, here goes...

Hanna, this is lovely. And it definitely reminds me of the Vermeer. The drawing is beautifully done. I take it you were happy with the ground?

This is beautiful Hanna. I really like the lighting (rim lighting, I think it's called?), and your portrayal of it, as well as how your drawing technique supports the center of interest. My only comment is that your hand looks a little dark, like you might be wearing a glove. I tried to go to your website to see if you had other beautiful charcoal drawings to look at, but it wasn't working?
Regards,
Holly

Thank you!
Now the website link should be working. The website itself is not very complete at the moment though.

Hanna, I really like how you've combined the "finished" face with a sketchier body, and I love your attitude in this portrait, too.

Hanna,
I'm surprised I missed this one, beautifully drawn and handled.
