Amy in focus
Today we finished the five week session with this model. The painting is almost finished but I still have some work to do on the chair. I may finish it or it may join the ranks of painted canvas that languish in my basement. Either way it was fun and I loved painting the shirt and the tilt of the head. I am now the proud owner of a digital camera so I thought I would post this.

Nice painting, Vianna. Can you post a more in-focus image? You may want to try putting your camera on a tripod and use the self timer, to eliminate shutter shake. Then we could see the details of this interesting painting much better.

Amy in focus
]Whoops! I'm afraid I got too excited with my new toy (digital camera) and posted fuzzy photos, thanks Michele. It's kind of like being told you have spinach between your teeth, embarrassing but you are sooo grateful to be told. The colors in the photo are slightly washed out but when I use the flash I get a lot of shine from the oil. Anyways here is the painting of Amy in focus.

Hi Vianna,
You have a nice painting here. The lighting is unique. Did you have the light source set up close to the floor, perhaps in front of your easel? Just curious.
Thanks,

Hi Richard, you have a great eye for lighting. The light was close to the floor and just slightly to the left in front of me. It casts an odd shadow but I liked it with the "attitude" tilt of the head and the bent arm. A nice break from painting lovely children in soft light.

Vianna,
I have been meaning to comment on this for a while.
I love your use of lighting which helps create a more interesting compostion, especially the employment of the cast shadow as an important design element. I love this kind of lighting and I know how hard it is to to do effectively without making your subject look ghoulish. Very effective!

Thank you Sharon, I had allot of fun painting this because the lighting was so unusual and the pose of model seemed to match the mood of the light. I visited your web site. I can see that you really like to explore different lighting. You have some lovely paintings.

Your work is inspiring
Vianna,
I've been catching up on all your paintings here and have been meaning to respond to at least one - the expectant mom is my favorite but this one and the lighting is great. I love your use of color and softness of all edges. Very different from the way I paint and that helps me learn. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us. The lighting in this one is very interesting.

Thank you Denise, that was a very kind compliment.
I always find it interesting the different ways that artists see their world and choose to represent it. I agree that you can learn so much by looking at others' work and this forum is an excellent spot for that. You really brightened my day with your response.
