I'm Janel
Hello to all,
My name is Janel Maples. I am 38 years young and have a fabulous husband, Phil and three beautiful children, Bryanna (13), Lexie (8) and William (2).
I can not remember a time when art was not a part of who I am. I grew up drawing on anything that was scrap paper in our house. I dug up clay in our backyard to sculpt with. I carved things out of tree branches that had fallen in my parent

Well, Hi Janel!
Welcome to the Forum, formally. Did I know you were from Manitowoc? You have probably become acquainted, at least through her portrait work here, with Jean Kelly from Wisconsin - we have figured out we were in Madison, Wisconsin together in the early 70's. Back when things were really interesting!
Look forward to your participation,

Janet,
Didn't you ever hear the expression, be careful what you wish for?
All kidding aside, I'm looking forward to that day. I'll be the one wearing the black hat with the demonic twinkle in my eye.
Welcome to the forum.

Hi Janel,
Your story sounds very close to mine, I waited 30 years though. Now I'm a Gramma, with my grandson over often to just sit beside me and watch, quiet as a mouse till I pause. Then the questions start, and I become a teacher!
Welcome to the forum, I've never made it to Manitowoc, but you never know. Madison was fun in the 70's.
Jean

Welcome to the forum and thanks for saying that I'm an inspiration to you! I basically arrived at that decision ("If it doesn't have to do with my family or painting, I don't do it") when I was toying with the idea of studying piano. I realized that I'd never get good at piano or painting if I split my energies like that -- and I've waited long enough to get serious about my art! I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

HI Janel!
Glad to see you come out of the dark! Look, If "I" can get brave enough to put my attempts at fine art up, anyone can.
Welcome.

Hi Janel,
No studio, just a very eclectic dining room. Too many people, animals, stuff, but lots of good food and music. You are welcome any time, just call first.

Janel,
Actually, I know there are those who do indeed read my words. I'm glad you chose to be among the few, the proud and the brave. Can you recite them chapter and verse?
When my sister was forty and her kids were in middle school, she decided to go to college and become an engineer. When reminded that she'd be forty four by the time she had earned her degree, four years hence, she would respond, "how old would I be in four years if I didn't go to school?"
A lot of people request the video, but quite honestly, the workshops I lead are far more effective. You can't ask the video any questions and it certainly can't give feedback. These are both instrumental to the learning process. Plus the cost of producing 20 pluss hours of video would be quite expensive. Taking a workshop is much more cost efficient
There are still a few spaces remaining in Durham this May. I hope to see you there. My August Atlanta workshop is already sold out. Also, if you haven't checked out my site, it's loaded with a lot of info relating to my teaching programs.
