A young'n

Hello. I am Chase Mitchell. I am an art student attending William Carey College in Gulfport, MS. I am only 20 years old and extremely new to the portrait world. I am actually majoring in sculpture, but I honestly find the human portrait to be more lively and interesting. Mainly because each person is unique. In the sculpture world I do mostly bronze work dealing with fantasy. Currently I am working on a dragon 33" x 33" x 26". I tend to be intricate with all my work, especially when I create the work for myself. I enjoy having the freedom of being an artist, but still like the pressure of deadlines. It just gets me motivated.

I also play the guitar, bass, and a little piano. I'm hoping to also learn the saxophone, trumpet, drums, and harmonica. I guess I'm a bit of a music freak. But I enjoy every minute of it.

I hope I can gain a large amount of knowledge by seeing and talking with all the exceptional artists on this site. And I thank you all for your time.

Welcome to the forum Chase,

There are not many sculptors here so I am glad to see more coming aboard.

Thanks Heidi. I looked at some of your work and you impress me dramatically. I know I am only a beginner and have a loooonnng way to go, but I push myself day to day. If you would ever like to see any of my sculpture work I'll be glad to show you. I've only been doing sculptures for about 2 years. Wood, stone (alabaster, limestone), and mostly bronze. I tend to enjoy bronze the most because I enjoy working with the wax or clay. I'm more of a modeler than a carver. But one of my goals is to carve an extremely large stone sculpture, somewhere in the 10'+ area. But that's much farther down the road. But I thank you for you welcoming me.

Thanks,
