Getting those gradations skin gradations with acrylics is tricky -- and I don't think quite as seamless as what I've seen with oils.

You are one of many here to suggest that oils might be a more satisfying/rewarding medium. I'm holding a gap in my schedule between Thanksgiving and New Year's where I'm hoping to give oils a try. I'm curious to see how much of a learning curve there will be, and whether I can cope with having wet!! paintings hanging around the house (w/2 kids, 2 cats, and a large clumsy dog). I'm thinking that I'll try just hanging them on the walls of my 'studio' (formerly the spare bedroom) as the safest storage in between paint sessions. Will let you know how it goes!!
