Amazing!
Incredible Chris!
So full of energy and dimension! Amazing that all the information isn't given but I think it helps to really see them! I can really connect with them as complete breathing, thinking, full of life fellow human beings!

Chris, I'm reminded of several artists (all Americans) that got their training early last century. The last two survivors from that "school" were Bettina Steinke and Tom Lovell. I like the expressive loose quality of this style. I thought it was gone forever...you're keeping a form of high art alive here.

These are stunning Chris! And I am in awe.
Ahem....I'd like to encourage you to consider a future book on this subject - (in your spare time of course).

Thank you all very much.
Tim, I may have mentioned that I participated in what I believe was the last class Bettina Steinke gave. She brought about a dozen portraits with her, many were charcoals from several decades passed. She was the most restrained and econmical painter I've ever seen, not one superfluous stroke, anywhere. In some, you could literally count the strokes she placed.
Karin, it's a struggle to find time to brush my teeth these days! But if I do find some extra time, I took some lovely photographs of Bettina in that class, and would like to spend the spare moments seeing what I could paint from them.

Rebecca Alzofon update
I have just seen Rebecca's update on the Pierre-Paul Prud'hon technique , which was the inspiration for trying these drawings in blue.
Aside from her lovely finished piece, the tutorial is articulate, and beautifully written, and I know will inspire many of you to experiment yourselves.

Hi everyone,
Thanks Chris, for your enthusiastic interest in one of my favorite historical drawing topics!
I can see that the info I shared has led to some fun experimentation - not in the manner of Prud'hon, but inspired, nonetheless. I am flattered that my web pages were the catalyst for your drawings.
And Bill, hey, I saw your show in Santa Fe a couple weeks ago when I was visiting my sister. Nice job!
Fondly,
Rebecca
