Chris, I'm reminded of several artists (all Americans) that got their training early last century. The last two survivors from that "school" were Bettina Steinke and Tom Lovell. I like the expressive loose quality of this style. I thought it was gone forever...you're keeping a form of high art alive here.

Tim, I may have mentioned that I participated in what I believe was the last class Bettina Steinke gave. She brought about a dozen portraits with her, many were charcoals from several decades passed. She was the most restrained and econmical painter I've ever seen, not one superfluous stroke, anywhere. In some, you could literally count the strokes she placed.

Karin, it's a struggle to find time to brush my teeth these days! But if I do find some extra time, I took some lovely photographs of Bettina in that class, and would like to spend the spare moments seeing what I could paint from them.

I have just seen Rebecca's update on the Pierre-Paul Prud'hon technique , which was the inspiration for trying these drawings in blue.

Aside from her lovely finished piece, the tutorial is articulate, and beautifully written, and I know will inspire many of you to experiment yourselves.
