Who's a prize winner here? 2007 Portrait Society of America.
I'll start this thread to ask who else is a prize winner at the Ninth Annual Art of the Portrait International Portrait Commpetition, of the Portrait Society of America, for 2007? I understand there are 11 Fnalists, 4 Exceptional Merits, and 16 Certificates of Excellence. That sounds like a total of 31 winners out of a record field of more than 1,300 entries this year.
I received a Certificate of Excellence for my portrait sculpture bust of "Gia". It seems unusual to get a prize for a sculpture instead of a painting, so I am pleased to report something different. Here is a link to the thread of the unveiling of "Gia".
I am happy to relate and understand congratulations are in order to Alex Tyng for also winning a Certificate of Excellence! She will have to tell us which portrait entry won, of hers.
Who else? Did any here get the bigger awards? Some are only finding out their competition status today.
Garth

Great News Garth!
I guess I am not one of the lucky ones, but I was online with Alex when she found out.
Congratulations to both of you!

I'm not surprised you are winning a prize for this bust, Garth, it's outstanding!
Congratulations (and a hug) to you and Alex (and whomever else posts here, too)!
Edit: I know of two SOG Forum members who are finalists, David Kassan and Adrian Gottleib. Congratulations!

Thanks, and congratulations to all the other prize winners! I can't wait to see all the winning portraits. Mine was of Dr. Constantine Papadakis, President of Drexel University. I haven't even posted it here yet, but I will, in the "Unveilings" section.
To take a look, here it is:

Outstanding Garth and Alex. I'm glad to see your wonderful little bust make it in Garth!
As for me, I also got the 'ol reject letter along with those other 1200+ folks.

Alex,
That is outstanding. The composition is wonderful. Those studies done from life, I think, really helped keep the skin-tones lively.
Garth,
Gia is enchanting!

I can't help seeing the similarities between this competition and the competition for admission to the Ivy League colleges. (We just went through this with our son.) You all are so incredibly talented and deserve prizes. I wish we all could have won something.
