Faith, three hour session
1 Attachment(s)
Haven't had an open studio session for awhile so I'm a little rusty. The group decided to pick up our frequency so we'll be painting twice monthly instead of once a month. .
I really wanted to continue on with her hands as she is holding a cup but I didn't have enough time. I guess I concentrated too much on her face. I am going to finish it with a photo. Thanks for looking DianneI |
Lovely and fresh - great skin tones, Dianne. Kudos!

Dianne, I wouldn't continue at all if I were you.
I find it very complete as it is. I really don't like vignette portraits, except if the empty space is structured as in this case. The unfinished portion is there to testify your process, and further work will weaken the painting which is instead very interesting. I believe that, if you will continue from a photo, you will not resist the temptation to "correct" the head and bring it to a higher degree of finish, thus loosing its strenght. Reconsider your work with confidence and you will see that it's perfect as it is! Ilaria |

Thank you Ilaria for your vote of confidence and your kind comments. I have to say though that I did work on it quite a bit today so I guess we are all a little too late. Hope I didn't ruin it. Here is what it looks like now.
Please pardon the gloss from the wet paint. Dianne |
Diane, Wonderful job!

Beautiful, Dianne! I like the way you placed the head, knowing how the rest would follow. Very nice composition. Finished or unfinished, It has an energetic yet sensitive style that is characteristic of all your work.

Thank you very much, Alex, for your kind comments. You folks are really encouraging!

Dianne,
This is a lovely piece. I liked it at earlier stages too, but you've retained the freshness, and it has great complexity of character even with the loose application. A great demonstration of carrying a painting further without wrecking it. Thanks--TE |
Thank you Tom. I appreciate your looking and commenting.
