Rembrandt study

Here is one of many Rembrandt studies I've done. The character of his lines in his etchings and ink drawings is tremendous!

This drawing is part of a full sketchbook where I drew everything in ink. I wanted to get away from relying on the eraser so much and force myself to really look at something before placing lines on the paper. I figured ink was the way to go, plus it has a character all its own. It really paid off!

Cheers

Yes it did! I am a big fan of one shot drawing, and practice it all the time in my line of portrait drawing, which is the live pose in public.

Beautiful freedom and clarity in your lines, and hand work. Drawing like this is addicting. My philosophy is "line first." Each line placed well and accurately, each line beautiful. The form will follow.

And the faster you go, the better it is. It takes a little guts, and a little dare, but you learn to trust your instincts and let them fly.

I never needed a "prize" or ribbon for my work. The drawing experience was always reward enough for me.
