Football on the beach, Nick
Okay, how about this one? This was taken at Devil's Lake, where I literally grew up. The area that I was raised was breathtaking, as an adult I've really come to appreciate my good fortune in being surrounded by such beauty.

Hi Jean!
This photo is actually quite interesting. I'm not familiar with your work yet as I'm still relatively new to this amazing site. But, I first thought of Bo Bartlet when I saw this image, and a bit of Tiepolo. Mostly Bo though. If you're not familar with his work he'd be someone to check out. I think his work is something special. His work can be seen at http://www.bobartlettart.com Hope this helps.

Bo Bartlett
Hi Brian, He likes to work big, doesn't he. There's some pretty amazing work on that site, thanks for the link. Maybe I should do this on a 30x40 canvas at least!

Yeah he does like to paint big. I had heard while in school that if you weren't sure, paint it big. Although I never knew who exactly said that it just always stuck in my head.

Not sure?
I kinda like being positive before I start something big. Like if I were to do this pose, I would raise or lower the line of the top of the bluff. Even though the negative space is interesting, it forms an unattractive tangent at his neck. I also might add another couple inches to the right side (more of his body and hand). The balance might look better. I would also add more space above his head. Then I would draw the whose thing out to scale and see if I'm "sure". I've done too many that I wasn't sure about, and wasted much time. Guess this is how to learn!
My largest piece was an abstract, painted, pieced, appliqued, and quilted waterfall. It was 14ft tall and 12 ft wide at it's widest point. With $500.00 invested in raw silk, I was absolutely positive before I started cutting!
