Southwest Arts Conference Demo.

I have been doing a "mural" for Vision Gallery in Chandler AZ. It is an artist-on-site event. Not a residency but we initially jokingly were going to call it "Artist In Captivity" and they said just PAINT for a month. When we refined the details, it ended up three weeks of work and my concept was the gallery from the point of view of the ART. I had 36 x 80 inch panels that I put impressions, not portraits of gallery attendees.

With that still in situ at the gallery, they were hosting an event for the Arizona Art Council and asked me to demo. The same day my mother was in town for 24 hours. So killing two birds, I made her my model.

With the least amount of stress a live demo can be, I just started a tonal underpainting and below is artist and model at the stop of my 2 hours and the portrait with one more hour from photos as she drove up the hills to her summer residence.

(I can't seem to attach them. I keep getting that files are only partially uploading. Will try later)

Beautiful work and a very elegant model ;-)

Is it possible to see the panels you mentioned anywhere?

Dang, Deb, that is truly fine work; both considered and spontaneous at the same time. Well done.

Best,
Dave

Thanks for your comments. Below is the portrait I couldn't get up (I believe my chrome is keeping me too secure, so I went off to a different browser)

My mural is still only a project, as it is too big at present to display. When the new gallery opens in December, we are going to install it as a faux wall to cover some doors to storage and classrooms that are hard to hang around. A great way to keep the art moving everywhere in a multi-purpose space.

Here is a link to the first article in the local papers.

I miss having something that felt like a JOB!

Debra,

Gorgeous portrait! Very impressive. And the article in the local papers about your mural was excellent, very well-written. Congratulations.

I framed it and called it a monochrome portrait.
This week I took it to my art league and it was voted Art of the Month.

MOM was excited!

Thank you Sara,
I think being a member of a league, no matter if you have much in common, gives you a chance to see what is going on out of your studio. Sometimes I feel odd, but every month they have a vote and people bring in their best stuff. The winners are on display at the Christmas party and we vote for art of the year.
I find it does let you know who the competition is!! (that is supposed to be a wink!
