I don't know if PSOA offers this, but I think ASOPA would take and give out names of those interested in sharing a room.

I'm going to go to PSOA's "Art of the Portrait" (April 24-27, '03) in Washington DC (actually Reston, VA) and will be working with Genesis there in the vendors area. This should be lots of fun and different for me because I get to work with paint. And I certainly look forward to meeting some of the members of this Forum there.

I'd like to start hearing from those of you who are attending to see if there is enough interest to put together an SOG dinner again this year. This is open to both SOG main site members and Forum-only members. Looks like it will be Friday evening. I think Thursday evening everyone will be settling in and Saturday is the banquet.
The dinner last year was a great success and an excellent chance for people to meet who had only emailed in the past and for old friends and acquaintances to reconnect.
Last year, the dinner ran about $50/person excluding any cocktails. We were offered a choice of 2-3 entrees. If this moves forward, I will provide information further down the line regarding menu choices.

Hi Cynthia,
I just confirmed my travel plans and would love to attend the SOG dinner, as long as it is not the evening of the Saturday night banquet. It would be wonderful to get to know you all in person.

For visitors to the show, SOG member Jill Cohen has offered to give a tour of the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria. For those not familiar with it: http://www.torpedofactory.org/home.html
Apparently there are some pretty high-class artists in there. I think Danni Dawson is there. But, I have no idea if they are open on Sunday, which would be the only day to do it. Jill and I have to discuss this further. But, I thought I'd throw it out for any comments. Actually, Mari, you can probably fill in some details here.

Danni Dawson teaches there; so does Rob Liberace. Far as I can tell it's open daily 10-5, so Sunday should be fine. I took my first portrait-drawing class there something like 12 years ago. I wish I was going with you all; besides all the incredible things you'll participate in with the conference, a field-trip to the Torpedo Factory will inspire you all. It has evolved far beyond what it was in the days I fondly remember.
There are vacant properties in downtown Sarasota that I fantasize have the potential to evolve into a Torpedo Factory South, but it takes a very united community to make it happen. It's a one-of-a-kind place.
As an aside, there used to be an absolutely incredible Ethiopian restaurant nearby, on King Street. I've eaten all over the world, and that restaurant makes my top 5 list.

And, that's really saying something coming from a chef!
