Patty goes to the dogs

Admittedly drawing dogs is not my favorite thing, however I can say that this was fun to do. It is large 20 x 30 (the image is more cropped than drawing) and will be hanging ten feet off the ground so I felt I had no choice but to work in charcoal rather than graphite for a richer appearance. I think doing a portrait in charcoal is very difficult but it sure made the dog easier. Now I am beginningthe companion piece another drawing of the two of then, laying in the grass...

Thanks for looking

Just realized this is not the final piece, I did do some work on her hair after this image was taken. Will upload the final piece when I get the chance.

Pattie, this is a wonderful piece. The dogs expression slays me. Did you purposely leave the figure less finished to concentrate focus on the girl's face?

Thanks for the compliment Richard. I did allot of prepratory drawings before completing the final one. My great fear was that this big beautiful dog would outshine the girl so I tried to make the focus on her face. I am doing a companion piece of them laying together in the grass and I am not sure I will be able to pull it off with the composition, on my third attempt...some poses just are workable and I may have to talk the client into something different. Seems nothing is ever easy, but the end result of this one pleases me, love it when that happens!!

Have a great day

Companion piece

Here is the second drawing to go with the first. Delivered to clients this week and they loved them. Now they have commissioned me to do an oil painting of all of them - YES! This is a wonderful family and they are all very attractive so it will be fun to do, a BIG challenge for sure.

Congratulations! Nothing beats a great client reaction, unless it's a great reaction and an additional commission. Good luck with the family painting. Well done.

Patty, that's great news about the oil commission! Both drawings are charming and, knowing your work, I'm sure they look just like the kids. No wonder the parents were happy.
