Little Girl in a Red Dress

Just wanted to share. I started out attempting to paint my granddaughter from life. She sat for me for two sessions. Unfortunately she didn't wear the same clothing the second time her mother brought her and she didn't sit still whatsovever. I had taken a snapshot of her in this, one of her favorite dresses a couple of days before. She was really looking forward to a portrait and I just couldn't resist using the photo since the sittings didn't work. Comments are always welcomed when I post. I feel I am still new to portraiture. Thanks for looking.

It is so beautiful! The way you handled the paint and model, feels so delicate. Would you do a real close-up, I would love to see the treatment of the canvas.

Gosh thank you Enzie for your kind comments and for looking. Here are a couple of closeups. I tried several times and this is the best I could get. My camera is not as good as it could be.

Thanks for posting the close-ups. I find your color choices and how they work in this painting very interesting. Very nice!

Thank you again Enzie. I'm afraid the image is not the best as far as photography goes so I don't know how well you are seeing the colors! I do appreciate your comments though. Thank you.

Dianne,

You have created a truly fascinating portrait of a beautiful child. I never would have thought to paint her in a bright red dress, but I applaud you because it works to accentuate her delicate features and transparent skin. That glimmer in her eye! The dreamy expression on her face! She looks like she could be an elf or fairy. I love it!

Beautiful!

I agree with the comments above and there isn't much more to say. She's gorgeous and the colors, expression and features make her a very peaceful yet powerful painting to stare at.

Wonderful work!
