question How many portraits at a time?

Michele's recent post on project scheduling prompted me to start this post.

How many portraits do you usually have going on at once?

I somehow thought I would have one portrait going at a time, finish that one and start the next. I have just started doing commission work and have learned it's not so. Some of you are probably laughing at how naive I am!

I recently completed two commissions for the same client, then was on to the next. We met twice but it's been 2 months and we still haven't scheduled a session for photos and initial drawings. I have another client coming tomorrow and I will take some photos and make color notes. I guess once I have my info (photos, drawings, even a color study), then it's pretty much up to me how the portrait progresses . . . . . until I need them back for final approval and possible touch ups at the end.

At this point I'm wishing I had 5 or 6 clients because everyone has such scheduling difficulties.

thanks,

Joan

Your experience sounds pretty typical.
