Online giclee printer

I have heard good things about Crimson Atelier . You can send them high quality digital files on CD and they will make full size proofs. There are no set up fees. If you want the work scanned, there is no fee for scanning, either (they can scan up to 36" x 48"). They are located in Yardley, PA (north of Philadelphia about 1.5 hours from NYC).

Good luck!

Giclees better from drumscan or flatbed scan?

Dear Molly,

Thanks for recommending the giclee printer--crimson atelier. I greatly appreciate it.

I have a question: they do flatbed scans rather than drumscanning. Doesn't drumscanning offer higher resolution and better results or have flatbeds come a long way?

Also, would it be better to have them scan rather than supplying a digital file scanned at a different place (i.e. would the value/color matching better if they use their own scanner)?

Any thoughts are appreciated-- of course I'll pose these questions to them directly.

Thanks again,

Manu

Hi Manu,

They do use a flatbed scanner, but they can also give detailed instructions for how to ensure color if an item is scanned or photographed elsewhere. They say that having them scan the work (for free) ensures the best quality print.

If you do use them, please let us know about your experience, o.k.? I've heard they are good, but haven't used them yet, myself.

Take care and good luck!
