No one responded to this question, which wasn't a big surprise -- the style of education (atelier) I'm looking for is geographically clumped: New York, California, Florence and Minneapolis.

I did, however, find a great website, www.classicalrealism.com.

In particular, the site sells some inexpensive books aimed at this "traditional" style of realism:

"On the Training of Painters," by Richard Lack
"Twilight of Painting"
"Painting the Visual Impression," by Richard Whitney.

The site also links to a GORGEOUS gallery, the Gandy Gallery.
