The conference was great, in my opinion. One of the best parts was meeting some of the other SOG artists in person.

I had been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art many times before but never to specifically study the portraits. Being able to do so this time will, I hope, make my work much better in the future.

As for conference events, I particularly enjoyed hearing Nelson Shanks talk about striving to capture the important and eternal themes in our portraits. He reminded us that each portrait must be made to stand on its own merits as a work of art, not just to record a likeness of a particular person.

Other than that, there were countless ideas on technique and marketing. I highly recommend attending next year!
