Total repaint

Okay,

I hated the first time around on this painting, so I ended up completely repainting the head and reworked the shirt as the collar was way too big. So here is the painting at about 98% done.

Hi Tony,

I believe that you have a point with the big collar, like Sargent who always did something weird to trigger the curiosity. It also adds to the light masses in this relatively dark picture. But are you going to change the shape of it so that it doesn

Hi Allan,

I am going to drop down the collar to get away from the weird tangency.

I usually grey down the warm tones with black to get my neutrals; sometimes I use viridian. Sargent and de Lazslo used Rose Madder and Viridian and white to get his flesh tones -- up the Rose Madder for warmer tones and up the Viridian for more neutrals.

Thanks for the input.

Tony

Hi Tony,

You have beautiful edges and color harmony at work - Ms. Johnson is one lucky painter. Perhaps we wll all have to take up plein-air painting to see ourselves on your canvas. Sigh.

My apologies, I know you put this in a publications thread earlier but I can't get there and AOL will time me out soon . . .

I do congratulate you, Tony, on securing and wonderfully executing the portrait of the Editor, L. Diane Johnson. I had seen the earlier post of the portrait, but because the magazine was forthcoming, I had not yet made the connection. What an honor and a privilege to be part of the inauguration of a new publication.

I eagerly awaited the first issue, as I intend to pursue plein air work

Tony, congratulations on getting this evocative painting into the PS of Atlanta show. They are a wonderful group of artists.

Like Steven, I am also very interested in what's going on at Plein Air Magazine and I really appreciate your posts here.
