Helena, a serial story
I have attended a figure drawing class and I concentrated on the model's face a couple of times.
Her name is Helena and she will pose for me more, although the figure class is over. I think she has an interesting face and made a deal with her that we should get together and do some portrait studies. If she sits for me a couple of hours at a couple of occasions she will get a couple of potraits/sketches. Can that be reasonable?
This allows me to practice and practice; different angles, different lighting and different expressions with someone who actually can hold a pose. I can vary the time I use to do the portraits and the style and medium. It will be so much fun!
I will post most of them here in this thread so you can see how it proceeds, and hopefully get an idea of what she looks like.
Here is the first one in what will hopefully be plenty. Graphite on light beige sketching paper. Time spent on her face maybe 3 minutes. Height of head 4,5 cm.

I particularly like her face for it's well-defined planes, hopefully they will show in my drawings.
Here is the second one; pastel on blue sketch paper, time spent maybe 5-7 minutes. Height of head 18 cm.

Hanna:
You have a nice understanding and control of how to visually measure and place features. They are quite nice!

I especially love the one on blue paper!
Sounds like you have a good arrangement with your model. I look forward to seeing more!

Hannah,
I am glad you are working from life. The drawing on the blue is exceptionally strong and beautifully observed. I am looking forward also to see your further work from models.
Sincerely,
