Scottsdale Gentleman
I hope she rises to the challenge, but Chris Saper and I were in our open studio this evening doing the same model.
I love it when you can see what another artist finds in the same model. She did a larger charcoal so will probably have to post from a photo scanned later, but mine is a nice little 10x8 of a late arriving, slightly sleepy wonderful retiree, no doubt fresh from the golf course.
My entry. You will probably have to wait for Chris.

Bravo, Chris!
I see you opted for the "mouth closed" I was wondering, as you were in front of him, was it very difficult, as much grumbling was coming from over there? You seem to have kept his features strong and balanced.

Fellow Arizonans
Debra,
Great work. I like the cool green flesh tones and the way you handled his white (gray?) hair. Is this a pastel?
Chris,
Nice monochrome study. Great use of mid tone values from the paper. Stunning work, as usual.
Hope to join you ladies soon for an open studio session at SAS.

Ladies,
Both images are strong and unique in their own way. What I find very interesting is how each artist's perception of this man is different. One rendering makes him relatively young, yet in the other he seems to have aged by ten years.

Well, Enzie, it may be why Chris is getting fame and commissions and I am drawing old men. Somehow I still miss the boat on finding the BEST of a face and working with it, but that will come.
Richard if you really want to do the SAS, get down there at 9 on Saturday. The school is having a 12 hour marathon of non-stop open studio - gesture, long pose nude, costume model and even still life - with lunch and dinner provided for the grand total of $48.
I did not reserve a seat but I understand you can drop in and don't need a reservation. I will be there with my car full of art supplies. Come meet us.
Tim, you can dream, heh heh heh. I hope to have coffee with you and your wife when you are teaching.

Debra,
Never think you are missing anything. As individuals our approaches are unique, as is our perception of the world around us.
I like your work just as much as Chris's, and yes, it would be nice if everyone's work were sought after. But in the same token all things equal would be boring and offer no challenges. I am always surprised to see "how different" we as people view the same things that are around us and that's all I meant.
