GIGO --YES
Hello Marvin,
GIGO -- yes, I know that statement well - just don't always remember to recite the mantra before I draw or paint - funny how we can waste so much time on trying to do the impossible isn't it? hehe
I cannot wait to watch you paint in Greensboro, see you working in your way, using a medium and explaining as you go. Watching a pro paint helps me more than anything I've ever done. I have such a long way to go. I also am obsessed so I know I will only get better. (hehe) Also, I am using bright colors and trying hard to keep it bright as long as possible - but can never get it toned down enough it seems. Still in that landscape/ still life mode that I've been painting in for years.
This photograph was one of many that I shot during that session with Alaina. I knew this one was totally dark and it is the third of 3 paintings I have painted of her. I did use other sources to refer to for the ear, back of her hair, etc. She was posed in almost the same position. I still haven't "captured" her. She looks much younger in the picture I think. I wish I could go to the photography seminar in Atlanta and will check on the dates. I'm sure in Greensboro we will pull some photography notes out of you!
Thank you again for your time and very valuable advice - I have other portraits I want to post for critique and will do that soon.
Titian, Paxton, Van Dyke - yes, they were pretty good painters weren't they? And they used limited palettes. Sometimes -- less is more. I should realize that on my next painting.
Thank you!
