I recently became a full time painter and I've been working on several paintings since with a view to competitions and an exhibition that I've agreed to do in about a year. However, to date I've made no sales, nor have I attempted to. I'm halfway through building a bespoke 'artist' website, but for the time being, my work is just on one tab of an existing site I used to show my work as a special effects model maker.
My website is

This week I did a little job on the side for a marketing conference speaker and when he picked up the mock up book I made for him, he told me that he thought my homepage needed some work, and that I should try to send out a targeted mailing to prospective clients that lists out the benefits of buying a painted portrait over a photographic one.
I admit to being a bit stumped about what those benefits would be. I personally feel that a portrait that is painted, even if it's from a photo, has an authority that a photo rarely has, but I wondered if other members might be good enough to share any views they have, or any comments their clients may have made about what it was and is that they feel they get from a painted portrait over a photo.
