I need this book . . .

I'd like to find a copy of the following book for not too much money. Anyone know where I can find it?

The Practice of Oil Painting
Solomon J. Solomon (Author)
Seely Service and Co., London

Richard,

You can download full (click on the book image) or plain-text (click the available link) versions from this page. (You'll need to scroll down to get to anything "clickable".)

The representation there is that there are no copyright impediments.

Later Note: You may prefer this site. The illustrations seem to come through more cleanly. Not a download, but you can print from the web pages.

It looks to be quite an interesting read. I see it on lists of "wanted" books, so it would likely be a challenge to get your hands on a hard copy. Not to worry. It looks like the print-out from the second-noted site comes in at a hundred pages (or less -- printer's still working) and a stop at Kinko's for a cover and binding package sets me up to go. Still much cheaper than finding a copy on a rare-books site.

Steven, thanks, but . . .

Steven:

Eureka! This is as close as I've come to finding this book (without paying big bucks for it), but I must have the oldest computer in the world.

The geocites site let me start the download, but went into a kind of la-la land, which my computer does a lot, anyway.

The second site was given to me earlier today, but for some reason, I can't print from the sections of the book brought up on the computer screen. Again, I think it's my ancient computer.

But, thanks so much. I'll keep trying. I did manage to get a text version from the second site, so if all else fails, I'll have the words, but no pictures.

Well, that's unfortunate, Richard. Do try again -- sometimes a web connection doesn't get all the grappling hooks secured, and the next one does. I have the print-out here next to me, and it is indeed about 100 pages, or about 3/4" thick. If it comes to it, let me know and I'll print a copy for you at a reasonable cost and snail mail it to you.

Cheers
