Speaking of the fashion sense of the artist, I often pick my kids up at school in my "painting clothes". (Those of you who saw me at the Whitaker workshop know I am usually rather paint splattered. My regular studio outfit takes this to the extreme.)
My young daughter calls my studio clothes my "food fight clothes" since that's what it looks like I've been doing. Oh well...
My wishful thinking is that seeing me that way reminds my prospective clients (who are also picking their kids up at the school) what I do for a living. I hope they're thinking, "Oh, yeah, she's that portrait artist. Maybe I should get one done of the kids for Christmas."
At least, I hope that's what they're thinking. It's probably more like, "Doesn't she have the money/sense/taste go to out and buy herself a clean pair of pants!?"
