This painting has been under way for most of a year now and I feel that it has been a worth-while experience to listen to the painting and figure out what had to be changed.
I think that it is asking for a dark frame too.
Another, beautiful, juicy painting. I really admire your work and enjoy seeing the brushwork in your pieces (the boy is my favorite) You did a nice job with the variance in skintones between the three of them. Lots to study.
Finally we can see this completed! The color scheme is so rich. Even though the colors are cool and neutral in some areas, there is a lot of warmth in the color, especially the shadows, and I think this contributes to the richness. I love the grouping of the figures, the lost edges in some areas, and the way each individual comes across within the group.
The portrait as a whole is beautifully composed. It is a thoughtful and feelingful work of art.
There is a marvelous illusion of solidity in the figures that makes the three of them really separate/emerge from the background! The reflected color in the shadows is beautiful. The kids' expressions and gestures ring true to their age - and I think the hands (detail over in WIP) are downright impressive!
The color scheme was big hurdle to solve. I liked the cool and neutral colors of their clothes but had to alter both Janni's more grayish blouse and Freja's more greenish in order to harmonize the group.
I also modifyed the composition by changing the arm position of Freja in order to form a circular composition, and took elements from many of the references I took last Easter.
Fantastic work, Allan!
Three figure compositions are always a treat to see and this is no exception. Very well achieved sense of form in each of the figures and each head is beautifully rendered, with an overall colour harmony that is quite successful. I like studying the closeups very much.
