B & W drawing

Hi -

It seems silly, "unveiling" a simple drawing, but I was pleased with it, so I thought I would share the results. I feel it captures my son's personality well.

"Just a simple drawing" does not adequately describe this beautiful work! I am so glad you unveiled it so we can admire it and learn from it. Although I don't know your son, the drawing gives me a very good idea of his personality and essence. Your technique is masterful. I love the wonderful depth of the shadows and the mixture of soft shading and the occasional stronger more visible strokes. I agree with Patty: this needs to be framed and hung.

Yes, it will be framed and enjoyed.

This drawing was a lot of fun to do, because I was experimenting.
It was originally going to be a pencil drawing. Now it's a mix of pencil, charcoal and one ivory colored pastel stick. And one layer of fixative with more charcoal/pastel on top of that. On Stonehenge paper, which was tough enough to take the abuse I gave it.

This is far from "silly" and your drawing is far from "simple".
Very beautiful work. Please post more of these "simple" drawings so that we have more of these references to look at.

"Silly" refers to putting it into the unveilings section, when that usually seems to be reserved for paintings.
But I was finished with it and didn't want to put it in the critiques section.

Julie (and all Forum members),

There is only one section to unveil portraits, and this is it, whatever the medium. So please never hesitate to unveil a drawing here if you feel it s complete and ready to be viewed. Thanks, Julie, for bringing up this point.

Julie, I think this is one of my favorite drawings I've seen of yours. Very nice indeed. Really has a soft old world (Renaissance) quality to it somehow.

Hi Heidi,

You're exactly right! I was trying to integrate line quality with shadows similar to old master drawings I've seen. Plus play with textures in the background.
