Hi: I'm Alexei Antonov
I was born in Russia in 1957, and I've been trying both hands (I'm ambidextrous) at art ever since. I can remember my self from the age of two, and when I was three, I was the terror of my mother's make-up kit, as I loved to draw murals on the wallpaper with her lipstick. All through my childhood I continued drawing, and in high school, though I left much to be desired in my other classes, I excelled in art and singing. I think that I was not a good student in other areas, because I prefer to teach than to be taught. Eventually though, I learned to learn. More: http://1art.com/me.htm

Hi, Alexei!
I agree, your site is quite impressive! I was in Russia the year you came here, 1991. Glad you are here! (Times have been hard in Russia). You have benefitted from the classical arts that are so highly regarded in Russia and Europe. I was only in Moscow two days, on route to Kazakstan. But I have had a soft spot for the kind Russian people ever since. I will need to spend some time looking at your extensive site!

Welcome Alexei, I too have visited Russia. Moscow, Leningrad in 1972. I was there for about 10 days. Visited the Hermitage Museum, saw Swan Lake ballet. I have many memories of that trip. One I will never forget ... While traveling on the train from Moscow to Leningrad, some of the members of my group were playing music (guitar, bongo) to pass the time. An old Russian man asked if they could play "Hello Dolly" one of the songs made famous by Louis Armstrong. They did and this old man gave his impression of Louis Armstrong singing Hello Dolly ... with a Russian accent. Quite a combination and something I will never forget.

Dear Cynthia, Lon, Michael and Mike!
Thank you very much for having me. It is a great honor to be in such an exquisite circle of artistis. I still need to learn more about your websites, but this particular Forum is the best online. Let's keep in touch.

I recently saw your new video, "Portrait of Anna" and it is wonderful! I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to see the methods and techniques of the Old Masters.
Welcome!

Glad you're with us!
I'm very happy that you have joined our group. I loved your website. It is always interesting to get a glimpse of the old master's techniques. I especially loved the rose demo and I will surely be watching "Portrait of Anna" very soon.
I would like to know if your finished paintings are very flat or if you finish with a textured surface?
Thanks for sharing!
Denise

Dear Denise:
Thank you for your nice comments. I am glad to answer your question regarding surfaces. To make long story short, the texture is appearing closer to the most light parts of the compostition and disappear closer to the shadows.
Of course, some paintigs look more texturized and some less depending on the mood.
Regards, Alexei Antonov
