The Bargue Way

"The Bargue Way"

I have titled thus because of my deep appreciation of his artistic and teaching abilities
It takes a lot of studies and practical application before one can acheave the mastery of Charles Bargue. I on the other hand am but a student and drawings and paintings left to us by Bargue are my teachers.

29cm x 42cm on Umbria paper, Italian hand made by Fabriano

Jesse C. Draper, a member of this forum, was kind and allowed me to use one of his photos.

I was inspired by the mood of the pose, the genteelness of the models expression and the subtle value changes offered by the cloth. The photo of the finished drawing does not fully reveal the nuances in value change, representing the texture of the cloth, but I hope you can appreciate the drawing for what it is.

Thank you for looking and for your comments.

Mischa, very beautiful.
How precious the transparency of the veil, so delicately rendered !

Wow! your artwork is stunning and alot of time has definitely gone into it. It was worth every minute of your time. She is so subtly mesmerising.

I am working through the Bargue Plates, your efforts have definitely given me a real boost and inspired me not to procrastinate any longer, you see I get bored with them easily (I am on Plate 1.3) but I can see that my baby steps will hopefully oneday develop to goregous pieces hopefully like yours. Thank you.

Well Done!

Mischa,

You have done a beautiful job on this! I'm very impressed with the way you have rendered the texture and folds of the cloth.

Misha, the serenity of the pose has been artfully captured by your command of subtle value changes. Just beautiful!

Enzie, thank you. I really enjoy working in charcoal. It's such a fun medium. If you were here then I can do one of a fellow artist.

Thanks again Enzie.

This is an exquisite reminder of the importance of great draughtsmanship. I have recently been re-discovering the joys of charcoal and this stunning work is further inspiration. Thank you for sharing!
