Dream Time

This is for Garth, Allen, Tom and others who wanted another posting.

Dream Time 30"x36" Acrylic

Actually i am cheating a little here as i took this off our living room wall to shoot and post. The work was actually completed in 2003. I see many problems with the painting now, but we love the pose and the feeling so I am forbidden to touch it again.

The painting is based on a shot I took of my son in 1980 (terrible reference shot but great pose). We were living in an apartment over a garage at the time and i caught my son day dreaming out the window. The day was pretty gloomy but I could just imagine where his active little mind was taking him. The painting reflects where I think he was in his imagination.

Hi Richard,
I have one, almost identical in the pose, with my daughter Camilla age two.

Yours is a real treasure. I guess that one needs to be very young to hold that pose on a radiator

Allan,
Could you post the painting of your daughter? I would love to see it.

My son would spend 20 to 30 minutes at a time knelling on that radiator. My knees ache to think about it, but he didn't seem to mind at all.

Richard,

The sense of being that age, of wonder, and of his world of imagination are very strong in this painting. I like how you've captured that.

I guess his legs just fit in the radiator ribs--and I guess ours don't!

Richard,

Here is the painting of Camilla at two. She was totally in her own world, drawing.

Allen,
Aren't kids great. They just grow up way too fast.

i love this piece with it's abstract impressionistic feel. Thanks for sharing. You too have a treasure.

oooohhh, I couldn't resist. Would you let me join? This is a drawing I did of my daughter 15 years ago. It's all wrong, and her nose is in the wrong place, but I'd go back into a burning building to get this:
