Rebecca

I had the pleasure of working with a precious little Amish girl in Lancaster, PA recently, and it was a challenge trying to capture her beauty and innocence in oil on this 16x20" linen canvas.

Hi Mark!
Lovely color and atmosphere to this piece! I like this little girl, lost in thought, theme you've got going here, very appealing. Nice Work!

Mark, I think the skin color is wonderful, what are you using on your palette? I like the pose as well. Congratulations on a lovely painting.

Lovely portrait, Mark. I wish the clarity of the image was better.

Thanks for the encouraging comments Terri, Linda and Cynthia.

As noted by Cynthia, I do need to work on getting a more clear image posted. I am not really sure where the clarity problem lies yet. It seems that I need to increase the resolution but that would make the image too large to post.

Thanks for asking about my palette Linda. It is actually growing out of control right now and needs to be trimmed down. flake/zinc white, titanium white, cad lemon, cad medium yellow, raw sienna, yellow ocher medium and light, Naples yellow light, cad orange, cad red, brilliant pink, Terra Rosa, Indian red, aliz crimson, transparent oxide brown, raw umber, veridian, thalo green, magnesium blue, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, Prussian blue, mauve, ivory black

The background was thalo green and alizarin crimson. I used cobalt blue and ivory black in the dress, and veridian on the head covering probably cooled with raw umber. In the skin I used terra rosa, indian red, alizarin, mauve, and yellow ocher cooled with raw umber and titanium white. Oh yes also this beautiful brilliant rose by Old Holland. No cadmiums in this flesh, although I do use them very sparingly on occasion.

What a beautiful look here Mark. Very soft. Wow! Your palette seems large but works well.
