Two Sisters: Lauren & Mallory

I just thought I'd post my newly finished pieces here. They are sisters, but the portraits are not meant to hang side by side--each girl will take their own when they move out of the house. In the meantime, although they will be hanging together, I did them facing the same direction because it was the more flattering angle for both of their jaw lines.

Anyway, I'm so glad to be back at the easel!

These are striking Natalie! I especially like how you've handled them both similarly and yet still show the girls as distinct personalities. The horses are beautifully done too -- even to the softness of their muzzles. Kudos!

Natalie,

I like the way you thought these out and carried out your ideas! And I'm very impressed with the textures of the skin, fabrics and the glossy surface of the horses' heads. The eyes are alive. The backgrounds, too, have a real feeling without too much detail.

Can you tell us a little more about the black/white theme? I assume it was prompted somewhat by the colors of the girls' horses, but why did you choose coordinating colors rather than contrasting colors for their clothing? Was this decision relate to the girls' personalities or preferences? Just curious.
